MINUTES
Minutes: Rich Contartesi, Director of Education Technology, summarized the purpose of today's workshop and introduced his staff that will be presenting Board Members with information regarding Education Technology. Teresa Wing, Technology Program Specialist, presented information on Engaging Students in the 21st Century Classroom and highlighted: why change?; student attitudes in 2006; and engaging students with technology. Bruce Roland, Middle School Technology Program Specialist, provided a demonstration of the Document Camera and InterWrite Schoolpad. Joyce Parker, Elementary Technology Program Specialist, reviewed information regarding BrainPOP. Jeanne Chwalik, South Area Technology Program Specialist, provided Board Members with a demonstration on RIVERDEEP. Lee Kolbert, Elementary Technology Program Specialist, summarized Unitedstreaming - Video on Demand. Mark Howard, High School Technology High School Specialist, provided information on the SAT Coach Online. Lee Keller, Technology Program Specialist, provided Board Members with information regarding Online Staff Development. Cheryl Smith-Brown, Technology Program Specialist, demonstrated NovaNET. John Long, Elementary Technology Program Specialist, reviewed No Child Left Behind Technology Initiatives. Gary Weidenhamer, Manager of Educational Technology, summarized the District's plan to Empower Administrators. Denise Hensel, Central Area Technology Program Specialist, reviewed the uses of the Edline Communication Portal. Christine Ragsdale, Supplemental Educational Services, provided Board Members with information regarding FACTS. Teresa Wing, Technology Program Specialist, reviewed the agenda for the 2006 District Technology Conference. Rich Contartesi, Director of Education Technology, summarized the presentation, reviewed the Requirements for Success and the Vision for the Future. Dr. Johnson emphasized the importance of technology in the classroom to assist in raising student achievement. Board Members discussed: digital divide; computer classes for parents; recording lectures with MP3 players; online textbooks; providing this information on The Education Network; timeline for using this technology in the classroom; strategies to enhance Edline; and the ability to access Learning Tools.
